Putting Veterans To Work
The best thing you can do as an individual, company, or government institution to help support a meaningful and economically sustainable future for Veterans is to be part of the effort to help create a greater universe of opportunities for Veterans in clean energy and clean technology.
It starts by increasing the number of projects for Veterans. If you are considering an investment in a renewable energy or energy efficiency project, contact us to see how we can work collaboratively to include a Veteran workforce, or to include more companies owned by Veterans. These projects can be as small as work on an individual home and as large as constructing and operating a utility-scale solar, wind, or biomass facility – and of course everything in between.
If you are a company that is involved in alternative energy or green initiatives please also contact us to find out about financially rewarding ways you can build and grow your company’s human resources with Veterans. GC Green’s Founder, Elizabeth Perez, is a Mission Continues Fellow (http://www.missioncontinues.org/) and is volunteering her time to connect Veterans directly with companies in the clean environment field. There is no shortage of Veterans with the skills to help companies, there is however a desperate need for companies to reach out with opportunities. If you are one of those companies please contact us with your needs and requirements.
Helping Veterans To Get Training And Experience
We work with a number of non-profits to help Veterans gain the skills and connections to join the green economy. A short list of these organizations includes:
- Veteran Green Jobs
- San Diego State Veteran Initiative
- Vetworks
- Operation Free
- The Truman Project
We encourage you as Veterans to contact these organizations and other similar organizations. Talk to them about your situation; learn about opportunities to leverage your GI Bill benefits; and find training and internship opportunities to allow you as a Veteran to do what you do best – take charge of your destiny!
At GC Green we also seek out grants and other funding to provide direct training for Veteran too. If you are a grant-making organization or a philanthropist interested in creating training or providing social venture funding for Veterans or Veteran Owned Companies please contact us to see how we can team up together.
Growing Veteran Businesses
Statistics show Veterans make great entrepreneurs. No surprise. Veterans learn leadership and teamwork skills – it is part of their “Military DNA”. We are doing what we can to support those efforts. We are a beneficiary of fantastic training from the Entrepreneur Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities Program (http://www.ebvfoundation.org/) and highly recommend this to fellow Service Disabled Veterans interested in learning how to start and grow great companies. We are also trainers and supporters of the Kauffman Foundation’s Fast Trac Program (www.fasttrac.org/) and we encourage aspiring Veteran entrepreneurs to contact us about specific training for Veterans.
We also have been helped by our local DVBE organizations including:
- California DVBE Alliance
- Elite DVBE
We highly recommend these organizations and similar ones you can find in your state.
Finally, we are taking a direct hand in help to create opportunities for Veterans in sustainability. We are in the planning stages of building the first-ever Military Cleantech Hub. Our goal is build an incubator and accelerator for fostering innovation that can help Veterans, increase national security, and build a greener environment. If you would like to find out ways you can help financially support this effort please contact us with your thoughts and suggestions.
Help Us Scale GC Green To Make An Even Bigger Impact
We are very proud and humble to have been able to create a business that is helping out on so many fronts. But, we are still a small company chasing a very big need. Our goal is find partners to help grow the powerful idea of connecting Veterans with green. If you are reading this believe as we do that our market-based approach can be a real difference maker and a true win-win-win endeavor we encourage you to contact us to discuss ways we can increase our footprint and accomplishments. No one owns a noble quest. Everyone can own the ability to make it happen.
